abstract = { A digital revolution is taking place with the development of global positioning by satellite. Originally designed for military purposes, it has now become an essential element of numerous civil applications. After the success of the GPS, the EU is launching Galileo (a constellation of 30 satellites which will be in use in 2013) and is using Egnos, an intermediary system, which offers higher performances than GPS (for civil aviation for example). This book takes stock of the stakes and potential services of satellite positioning, of the different computerized systems and solutions available, of all its aspects pertaining to law, safety or cartography. It presents some of its applications in the fields of mobility and sustainable transport: road traffic monitoring, real time tracking of carriage of dangerous goods, mobile networks, movement analysis, computer aided routeing and positioning systems for hikers, etc. },
